Information about Saalfelden

Our municipality lies in the heart of the Pinzgau Saalach valley in a large basin at the foot of the "Steinernes Meer".

With 16.659 residents (October 2017), it is the largest municipality in the Pinzgau region and – after the towns of Salzburg and Hallein – the third largest in the federal state of Salzburg. Despite the urban structure in the centre of the town, its rural and charming character prevails.

In 2000, Saalfelden became a town.

Retail and trade are dominant in the commercial area, and Saalfelden is the central shopping place for the Pinzgau region and neighbouring Tyrol.
